What is an MOT Test and Do You Need One?
An MOT test is an annual roadworthiness inspection required by law
for most vehicles over three years old. The test is named after the
Ministry of Transport, which originally administered it. Today it is
managed by the DVSA, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
If your vehicle is three years old or more, it must pass an MOT
every 12 months to remain legally roadworthy on UK roads. Driving
without a valid MOT is a criminal offence and can invalidate your
insurance. You can check your vehicle's MOT due date for free at
gov.uk/check-mot-status using your number plate.
At G R AUTO'S SERVICES LTD in Basingstoke, we carry out MOT tests for
Class 4 and Class 7 vehicles. Class 4 covers cars and passenger
vehicles up to 8 seats. Class 7 covers commercial vehicles up to
3,500kg. Our DVSA and RAC approved test station at Unit 2 and 3B,
Vickers Business Centre, Priestley Road, Basingstoke, RG24 9RA has
three DVSA Nominated Testers on our team.
Your MOT does not cover the mechanical condition of your engine,
clutch, or gearbox. It checks only the items listed in the DVSA's
published inspection manual. If you want a full health check of
these components, ask us about our
vehicle servicing options when you
book.
